We make our 100% beeswax rolled candles from foundation sheets. This is what we give our discerning BIEE bees to use as a base for building their honeycombs. It helps them to create a strong and structured comb so they can maximise their honey harvest. Without a strong foundation, things can sometimes go a bit Picasso! Did you know that a strong colony can turn cleaned up foundation into straight comb in just a few weeks?

Pure and clean

The foundation sheets are moulded from high-quality clean 100% beeswax, this ensures an exceptionally clean soot-free burn. We carefully roll the sheets around a hand-dipped cotton wick. Our 100% beeswax candles emit no toxins when burnt, unlike candles made from paraffin. Some even say that they release negative into the atmosphere to help purify the air… we can’t find any scientific evidence to back this up, but as our candles have no added fragrance or colouring, they are definitely better to burn than other candles!

Naturally wonderful

The pollen rich beeswax will release a distinctive and gentle honey aroma when lit. Because beeswax is a natural product, it varies in colour depending on what the bees that produced it were foraging on. The light from a beeswax candle is a wonderfully warming yellow glow.

Hand-crafted

These lovingly hand-crafted rolled candles are perfect for the dinner table or to enhance the ambiance of your room. Although there are slight variations to the candles because they are hand-made from natural products, they fit  well into candle holders. You can gently shape and mould the bottom of the candle to the size you need as, with a little warmth from your hands, the beeswax becomes malleable. Why not light some of our 100% beeswax rolled candles and get cosy and relax?

FAQs

How do I stop my candle tunneling?
The first burn is the most important, especially for wider candles such as pillar candles. You need to burn it for long enough to allow the entire top surface of the wax to completely melt (all the way to the edge). If your candle has started to funnel (ie with the sides remaining), simply blow out the candle and make the top surface level again. You can do this by gently bending the sides into the melted wax pool if it is not too bad. Alternatively with a hairdryer or by trimming.
Where do you source your beeswax?
Our beeswax comes from the Bee Inspired Eco Education bee hives that are placed in and around the Leeds area. We welcome donations of excess wax from other beekeepers in the area. The provenance of any non-BIEE wax is carefully recorded and the wax lovingly filtered and assessed prior to being used.
Why does beeswax smell so good?
Beeswax is a natural substance made by the bees. It absorbs the scents of the hive, including honey, nectar, pollen and wood.
Why is beeswax different colours?
There are lots of elements that affect the final colour of beeswax as it is a natural product. It can range from pale yellow to very dark, almost brown/yellow. The very first flakes of wax produced by the bees is white. They secrete it from glands on their abdomen. As it is used in the hive it is exposed to nectar, pollen and honey. The colours of these will vary depending on what the bees have been foraging on. As the wax ages it can also become a deeper shade. The colour can also be affected by the processing of the wax. If beeswax is melted at a higher temperature, it will be darker. It also depends on how much the beeswax is refined. At Bee Inspired Eco Education, we like to filter the wax just enough to remove contaminants but not so much as to remove all the delicious scents!
