Eco Education Activities

An activity for everyone

It is our mission at Bee Inspired Eco Education, to bring the world of bees to all parts of the community of Leeds and the surrounding areas. Inspiring the next generation to care for the environment and find ways to help our precious pollinators. They are vital to ensure food security, as well as the health and welfare of everyone and everything. Whether you run a school or a club, are looking for eco education activities to do with friends, or have an event you would like us to attend, get in touch today.

Buzz-like-a-bee After School Club

A unique 6 week club to learn all about our precious pollinators and looking after the environment. Includes crafts and activities and some hands-on action delving into a real live honeybee hive at our Experience Apiary

  • suitable for ages 8-17
  • runs five times a year on Tuesdays or Thursdays
  • 6 weekly sessions, 4:30-5:30pm
  • At the BIEE Experience apiary, CATCH, LS8 3QY

What to expect

The Buzz-like-a-bee after school club involves aspects of learning about bees and beekeeping as well as related craft activities. This includes things like frame building, candle rolling, designing and creating solitary bee hotels, making seed balls and more. Each participant will also get to have at least two extended sessions where they will don protective clothing and join in with hive inspections in our on-site BIEE Experience Apiary. We like to do this with a smaller group so it will be on a rotation basis.

Class size

We will have a maximum of 12 participants per session and everyone will get at least two hands-on sessions in the BIEE Experience Apiary.

Pricing

The six week club costs £36 per participant. Discounts may be available for FSM (free-school-meals) families. Please get in touch.

The next generation of planet protectors

We actively engage school children and run eco education activities and workshops for youth groups such as the Scouts, Guides and Woodcrafters. As the generation that will soon be responsible for our environment, it is vital that we inspire them and give them the skills to face this challenge. Our sessions can be specifically adapted to be suitable for young people and adults with additional needs.

Boost skills, well-being and engagement in society

There are a host of wellbeing reasons to engage those struggling with mental health in our eco education activities. Trying something new boosts self-confidence, provides a sense of purpose, helps you connect with others, and offers a distraction from worries. BIEE helps to provide simple steps to be able to develop skills to combat climate anxiety.

Through our connections with the community gardens across Leeds we are helping to provide a way for communities to bond and increase social cohesion. We have developed strong ties with CATCH Leeds, where we have set up the BIEE Experience Apiary. This offers the community a hands-on way to experience bees and learn about the vital work our pollinators do. We also run events at the inner city urban farm in Meanwood Valley.

Personalised small group experiences

Perhaps you are looking for something a little more personalised? We also offer private small-group experiences to give you a taste of beekeeping for friends and family.

All prices quoted on our activities are inclusive of travel expenses within Leeds postal code area. Prices may increase if you have particular tailored requirements that involve additional planning or equipment/workshop materials.

Reaching out to all

Need help with funding?

As a community interest company, we are passionate about the environment and ensuring that our workshops and clubs are accessible by the whole community.

‘We don’t want cost to be a barrier to inspiring a love of bees and the environment’

We want to make our eco education activities open to as many as possible so we are constantly striving to access grants to allow us to offer low or no-cost activities.

If your school or organisation is unable to allocate budget (or secure your own grant funding) please get in touch. When funding is available we will reach out to you. Priority will be given based on need, social impact and grant conditions.
